Commonly known as matoa, tava, taun tree, Island lychee and Pacific lychee, it is a tropical hardwood tree species that is widespread in the Pacific and Southeast Asian regions. The size of the tree varies, ranging from 12 to 20 m tall with a 10 to 20 m wide canopy and produces white to green-yellow flowers.
Medicinal properties
The bark is applied to treat burns, festering wounds, and smallpox, while a mixture of the leaves and bark is used to relieve oral infections, flatulence, diarrhea, dysentery, muscle and joint pain, headaches, fever, diabetes, and ulcers. Matoa fruit is rich in vitamin C, making it beneficial for skincare. It helps brighten the skin, reduce acne, maintain moisture, and protect against ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
