A small-medium deciduous tree with edible acidic fruits, found across India and Southeast Asia in forest edges and gardens. Grows to a height of 6 to 10 m tall. Its fruits are juicy, rounded pink to dark red and has white to whitish green fragrant flowers.
Medicinal properties
Fruit and bark are traditionally used for diarrhea, dysentery, and mouth sores. The extracts show antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Shows beneficial effects against free radicals, inflammation, germs, fungi, and pain. The bark is used to treat diarrhea, dysentery, and fever.
