Commonly known as paradise-tree, dysentery-bark, and bitterwood. is a flowering tree that is native to Florida, South America, and the Caribbean, suited for warm, humid, tropical climate. It bears yellow flowers and purple elongated oval fleshy fruits. 

Medicinal properties

Since ancient times it is widely used as a traditional medicinal plant and different parts of the plant are used for treatment of diseases like malaria, dysentery and cancer. The wood is generally insect resistant.
