A deciduous tree up to 15 m with compound leaves and fruit clusters that is native to tropical Asia. Fruits contain saponins that foam in water.
Medicinal properties
Fruit pericarps are rich in saponins used as natural soaps and in traditional systems as antimicrobial, expectorant, and anti-inflammatory agents. Leaf and fruit extracts are used in treating skin problems and scalp conditions.
