A small tropical shrub native to South and Southeast Asia that bears simple alternate leaves and small fruits. The fruit has two seeds covered with sour gelatinous pulp. 

Medicinal properties

Traditionally used for antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and digestive benefits, with leaf extracts applied for minor ailments in folk medicine. Root decoction is used for the treatment of jaundice, fever and headache.
