A large evergreen aromatic tree native to East Asia, known for camphor-rich wood and leaves. Widely planted in tropics and subtropics and grows up to 20 to 30 m. The leaves have a glossy, waxy appearance and smell of camphor when crushed. It produces clusters of small, black, berry-like fruit and masses of very small white fragrant flowers.
Medicinal properties
Camphor is used as a topical counter-irritant, antiseptic, and in inhalants for respiratory congestion. Used in Ayurveda for pain relief, inflammation, and digestive issues.
